PRESS STATEMENT! SHOOTING INCIDENT/UNLAWFUL WOUNDING IN CHALALA – LILAYI AREA

The Zambia Police Service wishes to confirm a shooting incident that occurred on May 16, 2025 at approximately 21:30 hours in Chalala area of Lilayi, Lusaka.

The incident was reported by Ms. Musama Mwamba, aged 37, daughter to Mr. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM), who sustained a gunshot wound on her right arm after being attacked by an unknown male assailant.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was driving her Nissan Patrol motor vehicle, registration number BAT 1887, grey in colour, from Central Mall to pick up her housemate in Chalala. As she was unfamiliar with the exact location, she used Google Maps to trace the address of her housemate, Ms. Josephine Nalungwe, who was at the residence of Ms. Madazi Mhango-Nkunika, a lawyer.

Upon parking near the residence, an unregistered metallic green Toyota Hilux, driven by a lone male occupant, pulled up beside her. The individual asked her if she knew the residence of a “Mrs. Kawandami”, to which she responded in the negative. Suddenly, the suspect produced a firearm and discharged at least three rounds at the victim while she was still seated in her vehicle.

Ms. Mwamba managed to reverse and flee the scene in high gear despite being pursued by the assailant. The suspect eventually fled, and the victim drove back towards the residence, where she was assisted. She was later admitted to CFB Hospital along Addis Ababa Road where she is reported to be in a stable condition.

A team of Anti-Robbery Officers visited both the victim and the scene of crime. Investigations confirmed that the victim’s vehicle was shot at multiple times and one projectile was recovered between the driver’s seat and the door.

A docket for Unlawful Wounding has since been opened, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect.
